Composition

http://www.secondpicture.com/photography_composition.html

I found this to be a great website that talks about different angles, frames, space, depth of field, and the rule of thirds. Here is a great quote from the website above: "The purpose of image composition is to create a visually compelling picture, a picture that evokes the interest of the viewer. A successful shot attracts the eye for a while". It is great to have a photo where the viewers eye can find the subject and then wonder throughout the picture without leaving the composition.

This is a website that shows different compositional schemes. I focus on the different schemes when setting up a drawing or painting, but I'm sure they can be used for photographs as well.

Rule of Thirds

Both pictures are of a scented dried fruit air freshener. In the first picture it is centered which was automatic for me, and then after exploring different angles I begin to think about composition. It takes a lot of practice to get yourself out of the routine of taking a picture with the object centered. I like the rule of thirds composition because it gives room for eyes to wonder within the composition rather than having everything focused in the middle.

Lighting Changes

The picture to the left was taken with the flash on in a darker light setting room. The camera was also set on manual setting.

The next picture was taken on manual mode with a low shutter speed of 10. The lighting used was a wall light that sat behind the flower.
The third photo was taken again on manual mode with a low shutter speed of 10. The lighting this time was a lamp that sat to the side of the flower.

The last photo was taken with the same lamp and same settings on the camera just a different angle. I think my favorite would be the second picture that used the wall light.

Week 4

This is a flower that I thought showed an analogous color scheme using pink, orange, red, and purple. The flower is a part of a valentines bouguet.

This is a photo that I took this fall that follows the complementary color scheme orange and blue.

The photo below has an analogous color scheme within the leaves using yellow and orange towards the edge of the photo.

Compare and Contrast

Both of these pictures are taken from the same angle. The first photo was taken with a small aperture of f/16 and the second photo was taken with a larger aperture of f/5.6. The first picture is all in focus while in the second picture the cat's paw is in focus and his head is not. The second picture shows more depth with the out of focus head it really shows that the head is farther away from the camera than the paw. There is some exposure differences, but I believe the exposure difference was a light change that happened in the room between pictures. There was a window right behind the cat.

This picture is a different angle of my cat where the aperture is set larger at f/5.6, and instead of focusing on the foreground I focused on the background. The blanket is not in focus and the cat is.

I added this picture because I thought it was neat, but I am unsure of the settings that I used to get the picture like this.
